EDUCATION

The RPC region is home to five four-year universities and colleges, seven community colleges, five career schools, and three schools of law.  The University of Alabama at Birmingham is the largest employer in the region and is known as a premier research university recognized for its outstanding medical programs.  The strength of the region's education system has become increasingly important as the economy has moved towards medical and technology-based clusters.
