LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

The RPC region consists of six county governments and 84 municipal governments. Jefferson County, the State's most populus county, is made up of 37 cities and towns. The largest city in the region is Birmingham, with a 2005 population estimate of 231,877. Since 2000, there have been five municipal incorporations within the region.
