Goals
for the Center for Regional Planning and Design
- Improve
the quality of life for citizens through responsible planning,
quality design and public/private partnerships.
- Explore
and test the principles, policies and proposals of different
planning scenarios in the Greater Birmingham region. The
Center’s work will complement the Region 2020 initiatives
and Regional Council plans.
- Maintain
comprehensive regional information about the physical
environment and related characteristics; ongoing projects;
research and assist others looking for information on
projects.
- Inform
and educate the general public, specific interest groups
and government about the nature and benefits of community
planning and design.
- Encourage
growth and development/redevelopment that protects resources,
preserves farmland, restores damaged lands, promotes open
space, honors our historic legacy, builds in harmony with
the environment, encourages innovation and fosters community.
- Seeks
to attract funds to the region that will further regional
planning efforts.
- Provide
a town hall meeting space that would be a neutral common
ground for people to come together and talk about the
future of their communities.
