Brown Bag Series: This Business Called Brownfield

"This Business Called BROWNFIELDS" will be hosted by the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham (RPCGB) at its offices on Wednesday - July 27, 2011 - 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. This is a brown bag lunch event, so bring your lunch and learn all about strategies and tools for revitalizing heavy industrial, military, medical and other brownfield sites.

The featured presenters are Mr. Jim DeLano and Dustin Heizer, of AMEC (formerly MACTEC). AMEC is an industry leader in brownfield restoration.

Speaker Bios

Jim DeLano - is the office manager for the Birmingham office. In addition to his managerial responsibilities, he also serves as a Principal Engineer and Project Manager with almost twenty years of experience in engineering consulting services. He has served as the lead for MACTEC's re-development services within Alabama since 2003. His extensive project experience includes the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites under UST, RCRA and CERCLA regulatory paradigms. Mr. DeLano has recent project experience with the assessment and remediation of sites where non aqueous phase liquids are present. He has specific experience related to project management, the development of reasonable and feasible site exit strategies/remedial alternatives, stakeholder management, and remedial process optimization. He has been involved in the design and implementation of groundwater pump and treat systems, dual phase extraction systems, monitored natural attenuation demonstrations, enhanced in-situ bioremediation projects, and risk-based closures.

Dustin Heizer - has served as an environmental project professional and project manager conducting Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments studies, Underground Storage Tank (UST) release investigation and monitoring, and other projects related to industrial and commercial site closure and property transfer and Brownfields. Typical properties have included office buildings, shopping centers, industrial facilities, hotels, medical facilities and undeveloped land. Tasks performed during such assessments include site and area observations, review of background information including historical information, regulatory lists, maps and aerial photograph checks, and incorporation of data into reports. He has performed investigations and collected subsurface samples at sites of known or suspected contamination, including commercial and light industrial properties. Mr. Heizer is also experienced in the performance of ground penetration radar (GPR) surveys, geotechnical assessments, radon surveys, and testing of lead in building drinking water systems.
