Midfield Mayor Gary Richardson to seek third term
MIDFIELD, Alabama -- Midfield Mayor Gary Richardson today announced he is seeking a third term in office.
Richardson, 55, is president and CEO of Richardson Broadcasting Corp., which owns radio stations WJLD-AM 1400, WAYE-1220 and The Beat 104.1 FM. He also hosts WJLD's "Morning Talk" show.
The mayor said he wants to serve another term to continue projects and initiatives that were started during his administration. He noted his work to persuade Jefferson County to build its upcoming $20 million Western Health Clinic in Midfield and noted the construction of the city's splash pad water attraction and creation of the Midfield Housing Authority during his terms.
Richardson serves as vice chairman of the board of the Jefferson County Committee on Economic Opportunity, is a member of the board of the Regional Planning Commission's Metropolitan Planning Organization and is a member of the board of Red Mountain Park.
The municipal election is Aug. 28. Qualifying begins Tuesday.
