The RPCGB has received a $25,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to improve transportation options for individuals in Walker County seeking treatment for opioid addiction. Contributions for matching funds were received from the Alabama Power Foundation, Birmingham Business Alliance, Central Six Alabama Works, Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, and the Walker Area Community Foundation. Several grants totaling over $1 million have been awarded in the past year to address the opioid crisis in Walker County.
The Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham recently awarded the town of Locust Fork, Alabama a $640,000 competitive grant for a nearly three-quarter-mile-long sidewalk project that will help give the town an opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles.
