Medicaid Waiver:

  • Provided assistance to around 830 individuals

  • Saved the state approximately $52 million dollars

  • Secured $15,000 in grant funds from the Lucille Beeson Trust Fund to help the elderly remain independent in their own homes

Community Planning:

  • Completed development of the City of Birmingham Southwest Framework Plan

  • Completed development of the City of Birmingham Northeast Area Plan

  • Continued development of the City of Birmingham Eastern Area Framework Plan

  • Continued development of the City of Birmingham Pratt/Ensley Framework Plan

  • Initiated development of the Homewood Central Business District Master Plan

  • Initiated and completed development of the Shape Birmingham – Health Impact Assessment Project

Transportation Planning:

  • Initiated the development of the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP)

  • Continued development of regional Freight Plan to be completed in 2018

  • Continued development of regional Active Transportation Plan

  • Completed or initiated the following studies under the Advanced Planning Programming and Logical Engineering (APPLE) program:

    • City of Birmingham – 20th Street Pedestrian Mall

    • City of Gardendale – New Road Study

    • Mountain Brook – Traffic Study Phase 2

    • City of Birmingham – Ave. F Bridge over Village Creek

    • UAB – North/South Streets Study

    • St. Clair County – US-411 Interchange Study

  • Coordinated meetings between local officials and ALDOT through the Heart of AlabamaRegional Planning Organization (HARPO)

  • Assisted ALDOT in the development of the Birmingham Regional Safety Plan

  • Provided mapping and technical assistance to a variety of local governments and non-profits

  • Developed and posted interactive maps on the website including a new TIP map

  • Developed and deployed an agency geospatial open data site for public data sharing

  • Facilitated meetings and training opportunities with ADECA & ASDC for 2020 Census programs

CommuteSmart:

  • Added 2,124 new participants to the program

  • Added 5 new corporate partners

  • Attended more than 250 events to promote the program

  • Maintained an average of 32 vanpools monthly

  • Reduced more than 13.2 million miles from the roads through alternative commutes

  • Saved participants $5.6 million in estimated commuter costs

Alabama Partners for Clean Air:

  • Documented emissions reductions attributable to the APCA program was 17.5 pounds per day of hydrocarbons, 657.8 pounds per day of nitrogen oxides, and 20.4 pounds per day of PM 2.5

  • During FY 2017 alternative fuel usage in Jefferson and Shelby Counties totaled 1,985,987 gallons

  • Hosted 128 free emission testing events with 2,031 vehicles tested

  • Under the Car Care Program 52 vehicles qualified for emission repairs, with 32 qualified vehicles being repaired

  • Attended more than 100 events to promote the program

  • Received 6,394 pledge cards from citizens agreeing to promote air quality and reduce emissions

Economic Development:

  • Issued 36 loans

  • Loaned $1,236,995.03

  • Leveraged $8,658,965 in private investment

  • Created 225 jobs

  • Provided assistance to various communities in pursuing ARC and EDA funding

  • Completed the 5-year Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy
